Anything done on the school grounds must be authorized through the Director of School Facilities. Any additions we may choose to make on the grounds must be kept up by those responsible for the additions. Dr. Marlett said our eyes are needed to let them know of our needs. It is difficult for him to see all the needs at all the schools in the County.

Update May 16, 2007 -
According to the code of Maryland regulations we cannot dig or alter the building without contacting Mr. Powers. "Volunteers cannot use any equipment ; chainsaws, edgers, etc. While working on school grounds due to liabilities. Volunteers can help beautify the grounds by weeding and cleaning up the grounds. Essentially the basics! We will maintain & keep Calvert High safe for the next 3 to 5 years prior to the renovation that is scheduled for the year 2010".
Submit requests to the Principal who will forward onto Director of Facilities. 410-
Calvert High Landscaping History:
1996 Leslie Merritt & Family custom made bird houses in the courtyard for the Prom. Connie Schmidt also worked on the courtyard.
1997 Boy Scouts worked on grounds for their "Landscape Architecture Merit Badge". Eagle Scout projects have also serviced CHS grounds.
1998 Blue Boy & Blue Girl Holly trees (from the Farm Valley Nursery) were planted in memory of "Eric and Cara Thorn" a brother and sister who died in a car accident while driving to CHS one morning. That same year the "Gardening Club" met each Tuesday after school CHS has had Teachers, individuals, & clubs to adopt a plot on CHS grounds.

Mr. Gustin of the science dept. and his students have been the main caretakers of CHS grounds through the past years. He is responsible for the fence around the CHS "rock", wooden trash can containers, raised beds around the Science Dept.
Mr. Williams was the original painter of the "rock" and has been the main donator & caretaker of the roses planted throughout the campus.
Grover's Landscaping of St. Leonard sent out a crew in Spring 2006 to haul large trees from the corner of Dares Beach Rd. and entrance. PTSA members cleared the corner to beautify and create better visibility of the PTSA marquee.
McHales Landscaping sent out a crew in Spring 2006 donating mulch , planting bushes, pansies, & two tall spruce trees to grace each side of the CHS marquee. They returned in March 2008 to plant two Leland Cypress in place of the spruce trees that did not survive the 2007 drought conditions.
Kelly's tree and landscaping ground down approximately 9 stumps throughout the campus at a substantial discount.
